This is such an amazing breakdown and a good and well thought out written piece. it’s self reflected enough without coming off as confrontational! This is such a frustrating thing creatives go through and I’m so happy to know that I’m not the only one that struggles with feeling imposter or feeling that my ideas aren’t special because it’s all been done before🫠
Thank you so much!! I definitely struggle with the feeling of it’s all been done before—it’s so tough! It’s still much a process I’m still going through, and will continue to share as I find new things that help!
I started doing this too (and also reading more books to narrow down on specific topics and influences I kept gravitating toward) and it’s been so helpful!
Another great read, I really like how you broke down what it was that you liked about the image. Listening to how you evaluated the images you liked then brought the key elements together to form a new idea gave me direction on what I should be questioning myself. I think also it’s understanding what your own style is, and having the confidence that your style is different? I mean I’ve definitely saved the Jil Sander heels& plastic bottle image before but I don’t know where I’ll ever use it. So I’m keen to know what you think aspiring art directors should do with these images after questioning what they like about it! (How to bring their own ideas to life as a newbie.)
Thank you!! Comments like this genuinely make my day. Sometimes I feel like I’m writing to myself, so its so good to hear it actually resonates and helps you🫶 Such a great follow up article idea. Will have a play with how that could map out x
This is a great read and something I have been thinking a lot about recently. Overconsumption can definitely stifle creativity and also make us overthink everything. The tips you shared are really useful will definitely try and think more about this moving forwards rather than just saving things because I simply like what I see
This was such an important read. I have always heard advice on how to take 'inspiration' and constantly heard people saying they were inspired by this artist or that campaign but I never really grasped of what that means!
Amazing! Thank you!. I’ve been struggling with the idea that everything is already made, and how hard it is to be really original and come up with new ideas. I’ll definitely be trying your tips on rethinking moodboards and pins.
Great article! I’ve been struggling with this exact problem recently and have been thinking of ways to navigate around the problem. I’m trying to take more visual inspiration from photo books rather than social media and also writing down elements for a shoot rather than using specific imagery, when moodboarding.

loved this breakdown!

Yess!! This! There’s so much stimuli now, to know who we really are you have to be so analytical!
Such a good way to put it!
