I feel so seen… my portfolio does not match my own taste but it’s what paid the bills:( and a huge yes to finding inspiration outside of your niche. I love looking at architecture for inspiration - at the end of the day clothing and buildings are both about shapes and proportions, and food for textures and colors! Loved reading this
Now I feel seen! I always wondered if it was just me. I love the campaigns I do, but don’t always feel like it’s my style. I admire the people that have found a way to pay bills & create their own style. And yes! I’m trying to make myself more observant of the everyday- looking to moments I typically overlook for new inspiration. Thank you so much for the lovely comment!
As a graphic design and art director, I resonate with this deeply, especially when you work in agencies. You put on all the hats but not yours, on the other hand, when you are in-house and if the brand you are working for is aligned with your values, there can be a little bit more space for our taste to come up. I love this idea, and I will try it out. I think it can easily apply not only to our work but how we carry ourselves in the world: how we dress, our home decor, etc.
Exactly this!! And such a good point about applying it to our lives in other ways—perhaps for some, it may be that our style isn’t reflected through our paid work per se—but can be explored in other ways. Really interesting angle!
Appreciate this piece and the beautiful imagery you included. We have similar perspectives on what it takes to find your own style amidst the noise — wrote about it a few weeks back!
Hey new sub🤗 thank you so much for letting me know! Wasn’t sure if this niche would fall flat here. Let me know if there’s anything in particular you’d like to read, I’ve only just started 💋
This is amazing! Very well written and the images are so well curated. In a time where we see everything so fast and skim without actually focusing, it was great to see how the images you chose really stopped me. Loved it!
Thank you so much for this!! I often find myself imagining the coolest, most stylish fits I can think of, but in the end I wear whatever I wear all the time... and I really wanna change that. The next time I'll keep your words in mind and try something new💫🖤
I'm SO glad this resonated with you. It's my first post, so always nice to know that it had a positive impact 🤍 I find this so often too. I feel like you can apply this to fits also - I have two saved boards of looks that I like and can recreate with what I already own, and looks that I like but would have to buy new things for. I find it helpful for when I need a quick outfit vs when I'm shopping. Also the app Whering changed the game for me for fit curation! X

Great stuff. Good you get to show your own aesthetic for the world to see.
Thank you! Appreciate the support🫶
Love this! I'm going to apply it to myself to see if it works for self branding as well~
